Is insurance the answer to our health care crisis?
Apr 07, 2009 by Joy | Posted in Other - Politics & Government
Q: I have heard that Obama's charge has been talking about requiring all Americans to carry health insurance. Is this really going to help regular citizens obtain affordable quality health care?
I work in a Community Health Clinic that receives unconventional funding from the federal and state governments. Our mission is to provide health care to those who wouldn't otherwise have access to it. We are contracted with both Medicare (federal insurance) and Medi-cal (CA Voice insurance), so we receive generous payments for our services. Medical providers who do not fall under this classification have been seeing their payment rates cut while ours heighten annually. We also receive federal, state, and privately-funded grants that deduct us to offer a sliding fee scale to patients with or without insurance. Patients who qualify pay $-25-35 per attack, comparable to most private insurance copays. Blood work is an additional $5, and we are contracted with a peculiar radiology center who also offers a sliding fee scale for their services. Community Health Clinics help everyone: the providers are paid well, the patients receive affordable quality care, and the domination is spending their money efficiently. Why waste time and money with insurance companies? Why not piece of equipment more community clinics?
A: I don't deem so. Private health insurance companies have proven, repeatedly, that they are not accountable to their policy holders. They buzz off claims, delay processing as long as possible, exponentially increase premiums if someone does get an affliction, etc. They have proven incapable or unwilling to act ethically, so I don't know why we should continue giving them opportunities to sexual partner up. I agree with you, community clinics. That is the most direct approach.

What do you think of Obama's Optional Health Insurance plan?
May 12, 2009 by tobey | Posted in Government
Q: I recently received an email with the news given below. One thing that I didn't realize, and that I don't think is stressed enough, is that this plan is only an recourse - each American has complete freedom to choose this plan or keep the plan they already have. The government is not trying to take over or charge your life.
This is not something out of Orwell and 1984.
From the email:
5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OBAMA'S Clear-cut HEALTH INSURANCE OPTION
The choice of a public health insurance plan is crucial to real health care go straight. Here's what you really need to know:
1. Choice, choice, choice. If the public health insurance opportunity passes, Americans will be able to choose between their current insurance and a high-quality, domination-run plan similar to Medicare. If you like your current care, you can keep it. If you don't—or don't have any—you can get the public insurance propose.
2. It will be high-quality coverage with a choice of doctors. Government-run plans have a street record of innovating to improve quality, because they're not just focused on short-entitle profits. And if you choose the public plan, you'll still get to choose your doctor and hospital.
3. We'll all scrape a bunch of money. The public health insurance option won't have to spend money on things like CEO bonuses, shareholder dividends, or cloying advertising, so it'll cost a lot less. Plus, the private plans will have to lower their rates and forearm better value to compete, so people who keep their current insurance will save, too.
4. It will always be there for you and your family. A for-profit insurer can bring to a close, move out of the area, or just kick you off their insurance rolls. The public health insurance option will always be available to stipulate you with the health security you need.
5. And it's a key part of universal health care. No longer will sick people or folks in country communities, or low-income Americans be forced to go without coverage. The public health insurance plan will be at one's disposal and accessible to everyone. And for those struggling to make ends meet, the premiums will be subsidized by the regulation.
What do you think? How much will it cost? Any other, better solutions?
A: It will slowly interfere with our health care system-just like medicaid
